UltraGrip Performance 3, Goodyear’s new winter challenge

Winter is still a long way off, but Goodyear has already unveiled its latest innovation designed for the coldest season. The latest addition to the winter range is the UltraGrip Performance 3. The tyre will be available from September with a very wide range - 94 sizes, from 14'' to 21'' and EV Ready – suitable to be fitted on different types of cars with both traditional ICE and hybrid/electric units. UltraGrip Performance 3 is the result of Goodyear's development and the best technologies designed to cope with different winter conditions. "We are thrilled to present the new UltraGrip Performance 3: a cutting-edge tyre with excellent performance in all winter conditions," declared Andrea Scaliti, Goodyear Italy's consumer marketing manager, at the time of the tyre’s launch. "In addition, UltraGrip Performance 3 represents a commercial and logistical advantage for our dealers: a single model to meet all kinds of needs, both in terms of size and vehicle type. The new UltraGrip Performance 3 is a mix of technology and innovation. Indeed, Goodyear engineers have worked extensively on materials and design to improve the compound and tread pattern to ensure grip, performance and low noise levels. Wet Braking+ technology ensures superior water dispersion from the tread. Water is pushed away laterally rather than frontally which reduces the risk of aquaplaning and offers performance in wet driving conditions at the same time. Snow Protect technology increases the density of the sipes thus providing traction and grip. In addition, the characteristic 'snow claws' (longer grooves on the shoulders), improve grip and manoeuvrability even in soft, deep snow. In order to meet the needs of electric cars, UltraGrip Performance 3 offers an innovative tread compound that is more wear-resistant; 3D sipes offer greater stability and withstand heavier loads. Thanks to technologies developed by Goodyear, UltraGrip Performance 3 is also a tyre with low internal noise levels. In fact, rolling resistance has been reduced by up to 3% and the new tyre is as much as 10% lighter across the range. In addition, a more aerodynamic sidewall shape improves airflow, reducing noise even further. The noise reduction is up to 36% (around 2 dB) across the range. Goodyear's SoundComfort technology will also be implemented across the range, reducing noise by up to 50% (around 4 dB). UltraGrip Performance 3, Goodyear points out, can be mounted on some of the latest vehicles, such as Alfa Romeo Giulia, Audi A6/S6, BMW i4 M50, BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, Cupra Formentor, Tesla Model S Plaid or Smart #1, Toyota Aygo X or Volvo C40/XC40.
