Continental introduces the new ContiAttack SM 2

During the recent Motor Bike Expo 2024, the international trade fair dedicated to riders and custom motorbikes, Continental introduced the new ContiAttack SM 2, the successor to the ContiAttack SM Evo, a road legal Supermotard tyre. The new tyre benefits from innovative technologies, such as the BlackChili compound, and ensures performance on and off the track. The ContiAttack SM 2 is a road-approved tyre developed specifically for the Supermotard segment and also suitable for a more competitive use. This tyre is inspired by the ContiTrack racing slicks. The smaller number of shoulder grooves guarantees a high lean angle and proves far superior to the previous generation of tyres. In addition, the ContiAttack SM 2 proves more durable, also on a track, than its predecessor, thanks mainly to the increased tread depth found in both front and rear tyres. The main reasons for such a leap in performance compared to the ContiAttack SM Evo are encapsulated in two technologies: the GripLimitFeedback, which increases the level of safety at extreme lean angles by providing precise feedback on changes in the coefficient of friction and the contact between road and tyre; next, the RainGrip compound, which improves wet grip thanks to a special silica compound able to cope also with cold and slippery conditions, without adversely affecting mileage. The new ContiAttack SM 2 will be available from the first quarter of 2024 in sizes 120/70 R 17 (front) and 160/60 R 17 (rear). From the second half of 2024, sizes 110/70 R 17 (front) and 140/70 R 17 and 150/60 R 17 (rear) will complete the range.
Third generation evolution
The ContiAttack SM 2 benefits from the experience gained by Continental in the Supermotard segment since 2011 with the introduction of the ContiAttack SM and its successor ContiAttack SM Evo in 2018. The latest model is based on a solid casing and a larger footprint for better braking performance even at extreme lean angles. Continental's unique BlackChili tread compound is based on the latest findings in polymer and raw material research. Continental's engineers have developed next-generation synthetic rubber to create a tread compound that features tiny (nanometre) carbon powder for high-performance treads. Like its predecessors, also the ContiAttack SM 2 makes use of MultiGrip technology, which allows the tyre to become gradually softer towards the shoulders. This means that there are no annoying “steps” between different grip levels when moving from the central tread area to the shoulder. The TractionSkin, a micro-rough tread surface does away with the need to break-in the tyre. The ZeroDegree 0° steel belt construction, positioned in the rolling direction of the tyre, ensures stability even at high speed.
