WITH THE 25th edition of Autopromotec due to open in just a few months’ time, the following is an outline of the new developments and events taking place in Bologna from 22 to 26 May. In some sectors – the organizers explained – the spaces are already fully booked and there is a slight increase in exhibitors and occupied area compared to 2011, which confirms the leading role it plays on the international trade fair scene. The last edition had 1,473 exhibiting companies, 543 of which were from 50 countries, and of the 103,666 visitors, 18,524 were international.
Throughout its fifty-year history, Autopromotec has been characterized as an important meeting point for the entire automotive segment at international level, a place where networks can be expanded and where there are concrete opportunities for doing business, a time when companies present their technological innovations and new products to an exclusively professional public. At every edition the organizers propose special initiatives that enrich the fair’s contents and give visitors and exhibitors alike additional opportunities for networking and business. An important new development at the 2013 edition is the opening of two new pavilions, 14 and 15, dedicated entirely to national and international companies in the diagnostic sector and covering a total area of almost 20,000 m2. Already accustomed to pavilions divided strictly by sector, visitors will be able to visit a genuine diagnostic fair, the new “Diagnostic Hub”.
The upcoming edition will also host “Filling Station Equipment”, an area dedicated to companies operating in this sector and associated services. The manufacturers of specific equipment, technologies and services in addition to those in the car care sector and petrol and lubricant distribution companies will be the protagonists of this initiative, where particular attention will be given to products, equipment, innovations and services at filling stations, with emphasis on the new sources of power. Autopromotec Industrial Vehicles Service has been confirmed. At this second edition it will expand the quality of its offer in the specific sector of industrial and commercial vehicle aftersales services. Dedicated to trucks, the initiative has an exclusive guide to exhibitors in the road transport vehicle assistance and maintenance segment and a special logo that identifies the exhibitors of equipment, components and spare parts for trucks. Autopromotec 2013 will also host an area that will highlight truck maintenance and repair services and specific equipment.
One of the important events at Autopromotec 2013 will be the second edition of AutopromotecEDU, the arena for in-depth talks about aftersales and assistance, which in 2011 proved to be an important opportunity for discussing subjects that are fundamental in the sector. Again this year, there will be workshops and conferences in collaboration with the main players in aftersales. AutopromotecEDU is an innovative initiative for automotive fairs and it has demonstrated that it is a melting pot of experiences and professionalism aimed at helping operators with their day-to-day aftersales and assistance business. AutopromotecEDU will be in pavilion 30, the historical area previously dedicated to  diagnostic equipment.
Scheduled for Thursday, 23 May, IAAM13, the International Automotive Aftermarket Meeting, now at its fourth edition (after three editions known as the European Automotive Aftermarket Symposium – EAAS - ), represents one of the most important moments. IAAM13 will focus on providing professionals with information about the trends and developments in the aftermarket sector in Europe and in some strategic countries like BIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) that will give them the opportunity to find new international channels for sales and marketing actions. The day dedicated to IAAM13 will have two distinct and complementary sections: in the morning, aftermarket specialists will talk about future trends in the car maintenance and repair market in Europe and in other countries; in the afternoon, experts and participants will meet to discuss opportunities in international markets.

Ever-increasing international commitment
The exhibition is an increasingly important appointment for the market and one that that attracts visitors from abroad. It welcomes ever-growing numbers of European exhibitors, who want to demonstrate their technological products, and firms from emerging markets, not only because of their competitiveness in terms of price but also for the great opportunities still offered by their markets. In any case, attention is always on the quality of the equipment and spare parts exhibited. Visitors from abroad (over 18,500 at Autopromotec 2011) come to Bologna to look for contacts and find out about products for export. Let’s not forget that a lot of the equipment that is made in Italy goes abroad (exports are close to  70% -  source: Aica).
Autopromotec is the offspring of trade associations Aica and Airp and its priority is not direct financial gain but the real promotion of Italian products. Promotion that over the years has made the exhibition a reference point also for the European market (80% of foreign visitors are from the Old Continent) and today also aims at selected emerging markets, in particular Turkey and Brazil, countries that were the focus of specific promotional missions in 2012. In Turkey, the fair was heavily promoted to open up new contacts, meet associations and individual manufacturing companies in the three industrial areas at Bursa, Izmir and Konya. Local technical press also received the most updated information about the fair and a large Turkish delegation is expected to come to Bologna in May. Similarly, in Brazil, a market in strong expansion with galloping levels of motorization, where Autopromotec organized a road show that also went to Curitiba and Belo Horizonte in addition to the financial centre of San Paolo. Figiefa (the association of independent spare parts distributors) has confirmed that it will be holding its general meeting during the fair. As always, numerous associations representing tyre and retread manufacturers will be in attendance and, three months before the gates open, a series of press presentations will take the latest news to the national markets in Paris, Madrid and Istanbul, whereas a presentation to the technical press, associations and buyers from north Europe will be held in Stockholm.
Lastly, the coordination of joint actions with ICE, the Ministry for Economic Development, Unioncamere Emilia-Romagna and Enterprise Europe Network and authoritative consultants will  lead to the arrival of about 100 international delegates from about 16 countries.
