Toyo Tire Usa presents NanoEnergy M671

The new super regional tire has been designed for vehicles travelling over long distances

The announcement of the launch of the new Toyo NanoEnergy M671 tire came from Toyo Tire USA Corporation, the American headquarters of Toyo Tires opened in 1966. The new product, a super-regional truck tire, is the latest addition to Toyo's commercial transport range and, as the company says, provides high performance in terms of traction, fuel efficiency and life cycle. The tread compound has also been improved, thanks to the company's proprietary Nano Balance Technology. But what exactly is this technology, that gives its name to an entire range of tires? The performance of a tire's compound depends largely on the bonds between its components, mainly silica and carbon black. Through simulation processes, functional creation, precision control and research into the materials at nanoscale level (one nanometre corresponds to one billionth of a metre), Toyo has sought to develop high-precision materials for its tires. According to the company, in fact, despite the use of raw material of the highest quality, only through advanced processing technologies the best performance can be guaranteed: in particular when working with infinitesimally minute particles of silica which are mixed at a controlled temperature in order to control the reaction of the bonding agent.  Thanks to this process, it is therefore possible to efficiently combine silica with polymers. In addition, by using 3D technology, useful in identifying the precise structure of the mesh created within the compound, Toyo's researchers were able to confirm that, the most recent compounds, using Nano Balance Technology, feature a uniformed dispersion control.

In the specific case of the NanoEnergy M671, the uniformity of the cap and base compounds, combined with the use of advanced compounds inside the shoulder and in the tread, maximizes fuel efficiency and increases wear resistance at the same time. However, the Nano Balance Technology is not the only technological innovation used in the NanoEnergy M671. The M671, in fact, also incorporates Toyo Tire’s advanced e-balance design, which maintains the tread profile of the tire while reducing strain at the bead area and belt edge for greater stability and longevity under heavy loads. The ultimate goal is to help reduce fleet operating costs by making tires equipped with "E-Balance" technology more environmentally friendly. Products that feature this technology have better tread profile retention and greater bead stiffness, with an optimised footprint resulting in a regular wear and, consequently, longer tire life.

An optimized wide tread pattern with 3D sipes provides even contact pressure, increasing traction. The casing is protected against accidental cuts and damage thanks to the combination of a high elongation top belt and stone ejectors. “The Toyo NanoEnergy M671 super regional drive tire signals a new segment-specific-product for the evolving freight market,” said Dave Johnston, director of sales for commercial tires at Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “The NanoEnergy line encompasses several fuel saving components while maintaining the durability required in super regional fleets. This increases the fleet’s return on their investment and maximizes the life of the tire,” concludes Johnson.

Toyo Tire has announced a further evolution of technologies used in the tire development process, called T-MODE, which will be based on Computer Aided Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. Back in 2000, the company, in fact, combined two simulation technologies ("The Simulation", which reproduces the movement of the tires on the road and uses it to process structural analysis and forecast their performance, and "Driving Simulation", which reproduces and collects all the information related to a vehicle to assess the impact this will have on the tires) which employ the use of a supercomputer to set up its core technology, and has continued its research and development work on this ever since.

Now, through the use of a system that unifies different types of data management and shares standardized processes (SPDM, acronym for Simulation Process and Data Management), Toyo has been able to integrate artificial intelligence to support the designing phase within its proprietary T-MODE technology. The use of Artificial Intelligence has been crucial, in particular for the development of a sensor technology able to display in real-time the performance of a tire while driving: with this system, it is possible to obtain information on tire condition, wear, load, and changes in road conditions.
