Growth through investments in hi-tech and open economies
The aftermarket meets in Bologna to revamp the automotive market. “Business needs bridges not barriers” Guide
Autopromotec, the international automotive equipment and after-sales trade show, which will be held in Bologna from 22 to 26 May 2019, keeps growing and now, in its twenty-eighth edition, it promises to turn the spotlight on new global issues - open economies, smart mobility, development of intelligent equipment, innovative materials for components and spare parts – besides boasting a totally new layout, designed taking into account both the changes that are affecting the automotive market as well as the needs of the visiting professionals. The 162 thousand square metres exhibition space - 4,000 more than in 2017 - will host local and international companies, multinationals and over 580 product categories, covering all sectors of the aftermarket, which according to research carried out by McKinsey & Company, generated last year an estimated global commercial value of around 800 billion euro, and is expected to grow further in the future following the impact of elements such as electric vehicles and new forms of mobility, such as car sharing. The growth of the after-sales service will be different according to the global areas concerned, with emerging markets taking the lion’s share - especially in Asia – while more traditional markets, such as the US and Europe will go through a period of consolidation. The Italian independent aftermarket, for example, is already showing signs of slowing down after 4 years of expansion. In fact, since the second half of 2018, most economic indicators in the sector are pointing to a downward trend. And the outlook for 2019 indicates that this trend could last for the whole year. The causes of this decline are to be attributed to a general slowdown in the global economy, a drastic fall in consumption in the Euro-zone and strong uncertainty throughout the IAM supply chain. This last element has a significant impact on investments, despite low interest rates and a greater availability of money, as companies would rather wait for better times before drawing up long-term strategic plans. However, this apparent passivity should not be confused with inactivity, as the aftermarket is actually witnessing a "hyper-competition" among some of its most illustrious stakeholders, jockeying for position on the market. Acquisitions, mergers and commercial partnerships are in fact pushing many players to join forces in order to better face the changes taking place in the automotive world. The goal, as always, is to gain a greater slice of the pie and be in a better position when the industrial production will start growing again. While waiting for this to happen, Autopromotec 2019, through its conferences and meetings with international operators and experts on possible future scenarios, will act as a compass: a vital instrument in setting the course towards what is now considered "the fourth industrial revolution".
New exhibition areas
The new layout of the fairgrounds, following the recent restyling, has been designed to best meet the needs of the growing number of exhibitors. Looking at the map, one cannot help noticing that Hall 28 and part of 29 have been reserved for lubricant manufacturers, a growing presence at the fair. Garage equipment and bodywork products have also been experiencing a significant growth in importance, hence, besides occupying Hall 26, as in 2017, exhibitors will also be taking over the second half of Hall 29, previously enlarged to host a growing number of companies. A decision in line with the significant developments recorded and the new trends currently affecting the automotive world which are assigning greater importance to these sectors in the car repair world.
Hall 29, inside the Mall area, will also host an area dedicated to B2B meetings with foreign buyers (previously held at the service centre). Hall 30 will be entirely dedicated to diagnostic equipment, with an exhibition space twice as large as the 2017 edition (when this area was located in Hall 14 and part of Hall 30). Tire service equipment, workshops and car lifts will also be repositioned in a larger, precisely in Halls 14,19 and part of 22. Outside, between Halls 19 and 14, visitors will find an interesting demo area dedicated to the same sectors.
Some things don’t change
Many changes but also a little continuity in line with the previous edition. During the five days of the fair, manufacturers and distributors of new and retreaded tires as well as rims and related accessories and services, will be housed in Halls 15, 20, 22 and part of 32. The tire sector is currently engaged in developing “intelligent” tires, able to communicate with a vehicle’s software, alerting drivers about any malfunction or anomaly detected in real time, and communicating directly with the workshop thanks to remote diagnostics. Halls 16, 18, 21 and part of 32 will be dedicated to spare parts, car components and car services. Hall 36 will host tools, compressors and multi-purpose equipment, while Hall 25 will still be dedicated to equipment and products for service stations, car wash and car care, including an adjacent outdoor area and part of Hall 32. Just as in the previous edition, space has been reserved to AutopromotecEDU, a think tank dedicated to analysing the sector as a whole as well as the most current issues affecting the automotive after-sales world. AutopromotecEDU meetings will take place at the service centre.
The 2019 edition inaugurates a new event linked to the world of competition, a sector that has consistently been at the forefront of innovation and research: AutopromotecMotorsport, an initiative sponsored by ACI Sport and ANFIA-Motorsport dedicated to companies that, thanks to innovation and their strong passion for motorsport, have made the history of motor racing. In fact, most of the companies taking part in the event supply motor racing teams with high quality components, instruments, equipment and services.
Hall 36, will also host the latest development as far as workshops are concerned with the Workshop X.0.: great technological strides are being made, many of which will be unveiled as previews during Autopromotec. Compared to the 2017 edition, the “Officina X.0” concept has been updated following the technological evolution of workshop equipment: many original and innovative ideas that were still in a study phase can now be seen and touched during the fair.
HOW TO OBTAIN THE TICKET
The entrance ticket is free and reserved for the operators of the sector, to request it just register in the appropriate section of the Autopromotec website. Once the fields have been filled in, the visitor will receive the ticket at the indicated e-mail address. Caution! Starting from this edition, each visitor making a registration must use a single email address. It will not be possible to request more tickets by entering the same account.
TURN YOUR TICKET INTO A BUSINESS CARD
To facilitate and speed up business contacts during the fair, it is possible to transform the entry ticket into an electronic business card. To activate the service please give your consent in the registration form (by clicking the third "Yes" that appears on the page), this will allow Autopromotec exhibitors to simply scan the QR code found on the ticket with the smartphone to visualize all the necessary information about the visitor and keep in contact even after the fair.

MOVING THROUGHOUT THE FAIR GROUNDS
A free shuttle service within the Bologna-Fiere exhibition centre has been made available also for the 2019 edition: visitors will be able to move between halls conveniently and with ease. The service will be available from 9.00 am to 06:00 pm with 7 stops from Hall 20 to Hall 25 and vice versa.

BUS SERVICE FOR THE CITY CENTRE
A free bus connection between the main entrance in Piazza Costituzione and the city centre is available for exhibitors and visitors. From Wednesday 22nd to Saturday 25th May, the evening bus service allows both exhibitors and visitors to reach the city centre in just a few minutes, with the following route: via Piazza Costituzione, Piazza XX Settembre, Via dei Mille, Via Marconi (Piazza dei Martiri), Via Riva Reno (Via San Felice), Via Nazario Sauro (City Centre). Bus rides every 10 min.
Here a specially built test track will provide visitors with the opportunity to get on board and test several hybrid cars and experience firsthand the newest ADAS systems both in simulated traffic conditions and in complete absence of light thanks to the use of a specially built darkened tunnel where shapes and obstacles will be placed, an absolute novelty for Europe.
A MEETING WITH THE RETREADING SECTOR
The tire retreading industry keeps on facing new challenges on a global scale. How to cope with the ongoing competition from manufacturers of budget tires, how to make the best use of available technologies to produce better and more cost-effective retreads, and how can the industry effectively promote itself in an increasingly connected world: all this will be discussed on May 22 at 2 p.m. at the conference "The future of retreading". A joint effort by Retreading Business, Autopromotec and AIRP, the conference will offer updates on the retreading market and offer suggestions on how the sector can prepare for the future, thanks to important international speakers such as:
