Bridgestone's production in Europe resumed at full capacity in mid-April - in compliance with all the recommendations and regulations in force regarding protection and safety at work - after the lockdown imposed by the health emergency due to the coronavirus which affected all the Japanese company's plants. Between April 14 and 21, the European plants in Burgos, Bilbao and Puente San Miguel (Spain), Ulyanovsk (Russia), Bari (Italy), Lanklaan (Belgium) and Bethune (France) reopened, thus confirming their readiness to restart and meet the renewed demand for tires. And what better way to restart than by announcing the launch of a new tire? Bridgestone is in fact preparing to launch the second generation of its all-season Weather Control A005: the Weather Control A005 Evo, expected in July, will, according to the Japanese company, outperform its predecessor. Weather Control A005 Evo aims to meet the needs of drivers by offering better control, safety and driving precision in all weather conditions and on different types of roads, from the countryside to city centres. "We are determined to help drivers overcome the daily challenges they face on the road, no matter the time of year," commented Emilio Tiberio, Bridgestone Emia's Chief Technical Officer and Chief Operating Officer: "Starting with the renowned wet grip performance designed for the A005, we have decided to further improve its performance on snow”. The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO has been built using Bridgestone’s advanced, high silica NanoPro-tech compound technology. Bridgestone has combined the compound with a new mixing technology that improves its silica dispersion to give the A005 EVO excellent fuel efficiency and enhance its overall snow potential. Applying a V-shaped layout and innovative Z-shaped sipes and featuring a new compound formula, the Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO delivers a snow traction force that is 3% better than its predecessor, a snow braking distance that is also 3% better, and a slalom acceleration that has improved by 4%. Lots of news also as far as the casing of the Weather Control A0005 Evo is concerned. The optimised casing construction and contact pressure distribution, enables the new tire to be capable of maintaining the same level of performance and mileage across all four seasons without compromising on wear performance. In fact, the Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO offers the same superior wear life as Bridgestone’s premium summer tires.   The Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO achieves the EU label A-grade in wet grip, the highest-ranking label, to ensure outstanding control in the wet. The tire also comes with an EU label B/C-grade in rolling resistance. Furthermore, the Weather Control A0005 Evo is also certified for winter use with a 3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake (3PMSF) marking. As announced, the Bridgestone Weather Control A005 EVO will be available as of July 2020 in 94 sizes from 15”-21” to accommodate most passenger cars and on road SUVs. This includes eight popular sizes offered with Bridgestone’s DriveGuard Run-Flat Technology (RFT), which allows the driver to keep control of the vehicle (that must, however, be fitted with an active Tpms system) and continue driving safely for 80km at speeds of up to 80km/h. Emilio Tiberio, Chief Technical Officer and Chief Operating Officer, is confident that the second generation Bridgestone Weather Control A005 Evo tire will offer the needed "peace of mind on the road, whatever the season". All that is left is to wait until the summer and put the tire to the test.
